FAQ
What are embroidered custom patches?
Embroidered custom patches refer to pieces of decorative work made with an embroidery machine. These patches are crafted using cotton twill and various colored threads. Usually, they convey a specific theme, event, or logo to represent the message of a person or group. They are typically attached directly to a clothing item or can be used in a scrapbook. The twill is often used as the background for the design, and a large number of thread colors are employed to create the details of the image, with a decorative stitch overlaying the edge of the twill fabric to form the embroidered custom patches. Embroidered custom patches are commonly worn by police officers, firefighters, military personnel, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, security guards, soccer players, college students, martial artists, and many others. There are several ways to apply embroidered patches, such as sew-on, iron-on, Velcro, adhesive, and more!
What is the highest number of colors that my embroidered custom patches can have?
The maximum number of colors a patch can have is 13 different ones. If you plan to use more than 9 colors, the price of the embroidered patch will increase. We offer up to 9 different colors free of charge.
What are my options for the background?
We provide a variety of twill background colors for our embroidered custom patches. We can match any color or Pantone color!
What backings are available for embroidered patches?

– No backing (for sew-on)
– Iron-On backing

– Magnetic backing
– Velcro backing

Where can I find custom embroidered patches?
At sunnyseasonpatches, we produce high-quality and long-lasting embroidered patches at an affordable price. We specialize in creating patches for our customers that we know they will adore. We use the best machinery and inspect every order to ensure everything meets our high standards as well as yours!
Can apparel with a sewn or ironed-on patch go through the wash?
Yes. We have tested both sewn-on and ironed-on embroidered custom patches and put them through the wash and dryer 100 times, and the patch remained on the garment. In fact, the average garment will only last around 50 washes, so your embroidered patch from Hero Patches will likely outlast your garment. Here's a tip: if you no longer want the garment but still want the patch, you can simply cut the patch out of the garment and sew it onto a new piece of apparel.
Will the colors "run" and will the edges fray when put through the wash?
As mentioned earlier, we have put our patches through 11 washes to test the results. There was no fraying or "running" of colors observed.
Why should I choose the iron-on option provided by you?
The Iron-On option merely incurs an additional cost of $.05, but it is truly worthwhile. With the iron-on option, you have the option to sew your patches on, and at the same time, you have the flexibility to use a heat press to attach the patches to your apparel or other textiles, or you can utilize an iron. Additionally, sewing takes more time, and if you take your patch to a tailor for sewing, it will cost you anywhere from $.40 to $2 for each garment. The extra $.05 spent on the iron-on option can save you both time and money, and the patch will remain adhered just as securely as if you were wearing it.
Will my sewn sample and the final product look precisely like the digital mock-up I received?
Embroidery is an art form, and inherent in art is the potential for imperfections. Embroidery is not the same as printing where a design can be replicated 100%. Embroidery is a completely distinct medium, and even the weather can cause differences in the final stitching. These differences are minor, but again because embroidery is a completely different medium, there will be slight variances. However, this is why we send you a mock-up sample and a sewn sample via email before commencing final production. Only after you confirm the stitching will we begin final production. The final production will look exactly like the stitching that you approve.
I have an existing patch, can you replicate it?
We absolutely can. Just take a photo of your patch and we will be able to replicate it almost identically. Check out this blog post that describes how we recreated patches that were nearly 50 years old for a Navy Veteran. For the closest match, send your product to us and we will send it back to you once we complete the production.
What is the distinction between a merrow border and an embroidered border?
A merrowed border patch means that a special type of thread is sewn around the edge of the patch to sort of seal the edges. Many of our customers believe that merrowed border patches appear much neater because there is no thread that puckers at the edges of the patch. The choice between a merrowed border and a stitched border is really a matter of personal preference. The only definite rule is that a merrowed border generally does not look good on 100% custom embroidered patches, but again we have come across customers who like merrowed borders on 100% embroidered patches. Check out one of our blog posts about borders to get another opinion on the border debate, or check out our special options page to read more about merrowed borders.
What is the minimum quantity of pieces I can order?
We accept a minimum order of 1 piece, and the price of one piece is $55.00. However, once you order 10 pieces, you will start to receive our wholesale pricing and the price drops significantly.
What is the maximum quantity of pieces I can order?
If you wish, you can order 7 billion pieces (one for each human being in the world). Although we are frequently asked this question, the answer is obvious; we will accept any order. Our largest order has been for 50,000 patches, and it was for a famous clothing company.
How long do you keep my design in your system in case I want to order more of the same design?
We keep a record of your custom product forever. We maintain a digital record of your product in your customer area and in our customer database, and we also keep one physical copy of your custom product in our warehouse. If you want to reorder, simply tell your Creative Specialist, and we will be able to quickly reproduce your custom order again.
